For this to work you need to make things simple so why not save having to wrap the gifts by using them as placeholders; and who would anyone blame you?
An easy wedding favor that might appeal is to have the photographer take a digital picture of each guest and then present it to them at the wedding reception as they arrive. The photos can be printed out whilst the reception goes on and the guests will have a pleasant surprise at the end of the evening when they leave as their photo will be waiting for them. One particularly good wedding favor, especially if you have a themed wedding is to have the photographer take a picture of each guest in their finery and give them a copy later during the day. If the photographer can arrange a slide show, the guests not only get a personal memento but they also get the opportunity to see how the photos turned out for all of the other guests as well.
